Fox News contributor Chris Wallace said Monday that global trade agreements are being used as a way to impose “globalist socialism” on America.
“If we’re going to be a free nation, we have to take on the globalist socialist agenda,” Wallace said on Fox & Hayes.
“And I think we can, and I think the American people are going to support that.”
Wallace also called on Congress to end the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a trade deal that the White House has been pushing as a means of fighting the rising tide of China.
“I don’t want to say it’s a bad deal, but the idea that it’s something that has to be negotiated between the United States and China is just wrong,” Wallace added.
Wallace’s comments come as the Trump administration continues to push back against trade agreements, such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), which President Donald Trump has been threatening to terminate.
Trump’s administration has also pushed back against international standards that govern the environment and public health, arguing that the agreement does not go far enough.
On Tuesday, the Trump Administration filed a lawsuit against the World Trade Organization over its anti-dumping and anti-subsidy measures.
